Context of the problem

In the Philippines, a significant concern revolves around the availability of clean water and adequate sanitation for its population. Out of the total population of 109 million people, an alarming 57 million individuals, comprising 52% of the population, lack access to a reliable and safe water source. Furthermore, approximately 43 million people, accounting for about 39% of the population, do not have access to proper household sanitation facilities.

These statistics shed light on the challenges faced by the Philippines in ensuring that its people have access to essential water and sanitation services. Despite the country's economic growth, rapid urbanization poses a hurdle in meeting the increasing demand for water and sanitation facilities, especially in rapidly expanding cities.
